Post options: H-beam vs C-channel
Both are galvanised steel; the right one depends on the wall’s height and how it’s loaded. We’ll spec the post to the job, not the other way around.
Galvanised H-beam posts
The stronger of the two, with sleepers dropping into the flanges on either side. Our default for anything over about a metre, for engineered walls, and wherever the wall is carrying extra load — a driveway, a slope above it, or a structure nearby.
Galvanised C-channel posts
A lighter, slimmer profile that suits low garden walls and shorter runs where the load is modest. Cheaper than H-beam and still galvanised for the same corrosion resistance, but not our pick once height or surcharge climbs.

A low sleeper wall under a metre, set back from any boundary or structure, is usually a straightforward build. Once a wall goes over a metre, sits close to a boundary, or carries a driveway or the ground behind a structure, it needs an engineer’s design and, in most cases, a building permit.
As registered building practitioners we assess this at the site visit, arrange the engineering when it’s needed, and build exactly to the approved drawings — so the wall is set out for the load it’s actually carrying, not just to the height that looks about right.
